Mental disorders are very common nowadays. Aware is a voluntary organization based in Ireland which aims to assist people affected by depression, bipolar disorder and related mood conditions. Participating with aware will give me a chance to raise the awareness of mental health and understand, support free from stigma, and guide people affected by mental disorders to appropriate therapies. Additionally, it will give me a chance to emphasize Aware’s message which is: recovery is possible. Early intervention, as well as ongoing support are very important. Through this elective I will get the opportunity develop my social personality and provide emotional and practical support to affected people and I will hopefully benefit from that as becoming a health care professional of the future.

I hope that you support our massage and enjoy our blog!

From- Ireland

I took an immediate interest in the Aware Harbour2Harbour walk elective due to the heightened publicity regarding mental health awareness in Ireland in recent times. Personally, I would to like to contribute to raising awareness that its ok to ask for help and that it is ok to feel down. If my message can even help one person to open up and talk about their difficulties, I believe that I will have achieved my goal which I set out with at the beginning of this elective.

I hope you enjoy this blog as much as we are enjoying putting it together.

Hi there!

My name is Mohammed Sindi and I’m from Saudi Arabia.

That said, please let me walk you through this elective on my own carpet.

The harbour to harbour walk is a beautiful reminder for us and those who participate. a reminder to raise awareness on mental illnesses. Personally, I see the beauty of it when we walk, as I can feel the problems in my mind convert into the physical effort I’m willing to pay step by step. In contrast, people diagnosed with mental illness such as anxiety, as I believe can feel the same relief as any other could through walking, showing us the possibility of relief provided.

Walking to reach a place… is exactly what we are doing to reach out to the community as we send our help to those in need, by freeing the phrase mental illness of the stigma it follows. As every member in this group I wish to be able to provide all the emotional and practical support and love needed as it is our duty as humans before being a duty for future healthcare givers.

Hoping you could join our cause as we walk from harbour2harbour!

Finally, the students will be able to see new views of Ireland during the walk that will take place on the 17th, March, 2020.

Hello.

I am Mohammed Alkaabi from the United Arab Emirates. I am 19 years old and currently, I am a student at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

As a part of professionalism module, I chose to join Harbour2Harbour walk elective which is organized by Aware. Aware is an Irish voluntary organization that aim to help people suffering from depression and other mental disorders. It also aims to raise awareness in relation to mental illnesses and the stigma associated with them in the society. Participating in this elective is an opportunity to raise awareness among my colleagues, family members, and friends. It is also a chance for my colleagues and I to appreciate and realize the importance of mental health and how to maintain it. In addition, it reminds each one of us that we have significant roles in the society, and helping people, specially people with mental illnesses, is an obligation. In addition, I hope that being part of this elective will encourage me and my colleagues to volunteer more and realize the significance of volunteering.
