Week 5 – Sleep, Stress And Mental Health

Sleeping Is a mandatory part of our daily lives. As I have experienced bad and good nights of sleep, I can tell you how important it is to keep a healthy and organised sleep schedule for your energy at day and how it helps getting you ready for sleep the night after. But, there are some uncontrollable events that may happen in during the day which might have an adverse effect on our sleeping schedule.

It is easy to say when you are going to sleep tonight or planning a sleep schedule, but when anxiety or stress gets in the way it becomes a difficult task to achieve. Fear not! For every problem has a solution. The solution varies from one person to the other, and sharing my own experience being a medical student I’ve had my share of stress that affected my mood, hence had caused me a problem to get a good night sleep sometimes. Nevertheless, as I began listening to soothing music genre such as lo-fi my problems at night started fading away magically. It seemed like an impossible task at first but night after night I kept throwing away all of my daily encounters into nothing only cause I knew I needed my sleep organised knowing the importance of it. “Keep your priorities straight” is what I’d say in this situation.

Of course there are a few more aspects to keep in mind before going to sleep, such as energy levels (stay away from high sugar food) and keeping your daily caffeine consumption in mind.

Lastly, stay healthy and stay focused on your goals, because whether it was stress or anxiety that is getting in your way, remember, that is all in your brain, so know it can be controlled indirectly!
